LDL Apheresis LDL apheresis is a life changing therapy for the treatment of refractory hyperlipidemia. Typical patients have heart disease at an early age and cholesterol levels that do not respond to diet and medication.
FDA guidelines for LDL apheresis:
One LDL apheresis treatment lowers LDL cholesterol by 70 - 80 %. The treatment also significantly lowers VLDL, Lp(a), while HDL remains about the same. To maintain levels, treatments are needed every 2 weeks.
Studies have shown the following benefits for patients receiving LDL apheresis:
-
Decreased coronary events
-
Regression of atherosclerosis
-
Improved endothelial function/tissue perfusion
-
Symptomatic relief
Diabetes Education Diabetes education at Sun Health is Medicare approved and recognized by the American Diabetes Association for excellence in teaching people how to manage diabetes.
